Hello, friends! It's Jana Eubank here with you today. The May 2023 Color Kit includes TWO Stencils. Today I want to show you how to add texture to your stenciling using tulle or netting along with your stencil. Watch the video below or keep reading for details!
The design for this layout was inspired by the ‘Fresh New Day’ paper from the May 2023 Main Hip Kit. I loved the rows of colorful hexagons and wanted to use them as vertical rows on my page. But first, I thought it would be fun to add some visual texture to the background (Ice Cardstock – Cardstock Kit) with some stenciling using the Mandala mask/stencil from the May Color Kit.
I wanted to do something different with the stencil, so I looked through my stash and found a roll of tulle that I had purchased from the dollar store. I had the idea to layer it with the stencil on my page, then pounce the paints through the stencil and the tulle simultaneously. It worked! I love the subtle, visual texture this technique added to my project. Here is a closer look.
While the paint was drying, I fussy-cut five rows of hexagons from the ‘Fresh New Day’ paper. Next, I scored each row of hexagons along the white spaces in the design, then folded each strip back and forth in an accordion style. I adhered the strips to the page by adding quick-drying liquid adhesive to the valley of each fold before placing it on the background.
Next, I matted my photo with the Grape and Banana cardstock from the Cardstock Kit and embellished it with die-cuts, chipboard, and puffy stickers. I couldn’t find a phrase that worked for my page topic, so I cut a few apart and combined them together to create my own!
There are so many cute alphabets in the kits this month. I combined them all together to create the title for my page. I’m loving the silver foil details on the die-cuts this month, too!
I added the journaling to this page by printing it on vellum so that you could still see the stenciling. Finally, I sprinkled the corners of the design with a splatter of the green watercolor paint included with the Color Kit.
With the stenciling, accordion-folded hexagon strips, puffy stickers, and chipboard … this page is BRIMMING with texture. I had so much FUN creating this layout!
